Thanks PiaP for all your effort and expertise this season.

Largely enjoyed this season if I'm honest, lots of racing and unexpected things happening race to race outside 1st place. Max isn't everyone's cup of tea but he's done phenomenally.

Abu Dhabi is a rubbish closer, always has been always will be. Expect the McLarens and Ferrari's to battle hard for 2nd here.

PIAP - thanks also from me for your sterling efforts. I’m currently in Dubai heading to Abu Dhabi tomorrow for the weekend. I’d like to think it will be a great race but realistically…….However the buzz should be good.

Didn't realise there were two on the bounce! Brutal schedule for anybody required to work at Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

Not ruling out the possibility of a good race, the circuit has been better since the changes for 2021.

Lots to shake out in the driver's and constructor's standings.

Wonder who'll pop up in post-season testing.

Not sure there’s ever been a double-header with 12 hours’ time difference between cities before, even with a few hours’ offset in the event race timings.

When I went from Dubai to Vegas for a work conference, it took me the whole week I was there to get the body clock right, only to have to do it all again the other way - it’s a 24h trip with 12h difference. Properly brutal, especially for those travelling at the back of the plane.

No real difference to night shift workers that do it most weeks of the year.

Logan Sargeant to bring out the safety car on lap 53 just after both RBs have passed the pits. Debris is cleared away in time for one racing lap at the end, Lewis having bolted on some fresh softs during the SC period. The race director calls "whoever wins is WDC" and Lewis finally gets number 8.

Thankfully the weather forecast looks okay for this coming weekend. The last few days it’s been raining, Friday was a proper storm!

My personal ‘home’ race, but I won’t be going this year, the event completely sold out - even after it became obvious the titles would have been decided a couple of months ago. Will watch from a pub in one of the hotels close by, and perhaps gatecrash an after-party!
You should be able to pick up tickets fairly easily at face value or below, seen loads of people on socials / WhatsApp trying to offload them.

I’ll be there from Thursday, pit lane all times, but won’t get my garage allocation until Friday.

Indeed. I’ve been in the UAE many, many times since 1979 and I’ve seen most things but I’ve never seen a thunderstorm like there was in Dubai last Thursday night. Proper tropical but since then the weather’s been pretty nice.

thumbup

I’ve not watched the races this year. It’s quite liberating; but anyway I won’t watch any next year either if it’s as one sided as this year again. It’s possible I’ll never be a proper fan again, like many people I think.

F1 scrutineering. I haven’t done f1 since the race that shouldn’t be named (did f2 last year) so will be good to get up close with the cars under the new regs, always interesting to compare what’s under the skin and different approaches between teams.

We treat rain like the UK treats snow. You wake up, see there’s a storm outside, and go back to bed safe in the knowledge that you’ll be working from home. Either that, or be one of the many idiots stuck in the road closure for a few hours. Schools were all closed on Friday.

2006 was the worst storm I remember here, over a couple of days at the end of November, and before a lot of the modern infrastructure was built.

Micrometer puhlease!

Hope so as will mean I’m with a podium placing team or the FIA garage. Although you see and learn more with those towards the back of the grid, if you’re with a team not fighting for anything or otherwise in a good end of season mood, you can have some very good/insightful conversations with the engineers and even the drivers.

However those days are pretty much gone post covid, the role is more limited to observing from outside the garage. F2 is much more hands on.

@sandpitsteve you should consider getting involved next year if you fancy it, very easy to do so with an introduction.
