For years, the Citroën DS was primarily known in Holland as 'the snoek' (the pike), but enthusiasts are now increasingly referring to this unique classic car by its official model name. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that this French car deserves its own chapter in every book about classic vehicles. From the first series with single headlights to the later versions with concealed lighting: the DS was far ahead of its time, making it a pleasure to behold and travel in even today.
The soft green D Super you see here is just how many prefer it: a beautifully understated colour that complements the lines of the DS, combined with a gorgeous fabric interior. This DS is in a very fine condition. It's equipped with the most powerful engine, the 2,175 cc four-cylinder. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it's an incredibly pleasant car for long-distance journeys, whether on the Dutch A2 or the French Autoroute.
'Very fine' is the right description for the DS's body. The bumpers, doors, and engine and boot and bonnet lids are in very nice condition, and the light green metallic paint is also in excellent shape. The chrome work and rubber components were all renewed during a past restoration and are therefore in very good condition. The doors close tightly and with a beautiful, satisfying thud, which is not always the case with DS cars.
The interior is as we prefer to see it: in a beautiful condition, with fabric upholstery that is in impeccable shape and complements the exterior paint finish wonderfully. Looking around, you'll notice beautiful details, a dashboard in very nice condition and lovely, plush carpeting. In front of you, the characteristic DS dashboard, with three large round gauges and a steering wheel with just a single spoke. The entire interior is best described as being 'neat,' with some signs of use, as expected for a car that has been driven.
The four-cylinder engine is a joy to drive. The 2.1-liter engine is well-known among DS enthusiasts, producing 109 horsepower and displacing 2,175 cc. It has been serviced by one of the most renowned DS specialists in the eastern part of the Netherlands. The engine runs like clockwork and sounds very healthy, and the car drives extremely smoothly, as you would expect from a DS of this class. Consistent with the rest of the car, the undercarriage is in excellent condition. There appear to be no visible issues, and none are required: aside from some signs of use, it can be considered to be in 'exceptionally good' condition.
You shouldn't miss out on this DS if you're in search of one of the most comfortable classic cars available.
